JSK Journalism Fellowships
managing director
United States
Pam Maples is a managing director of the John S. Knight Journalism Fellowships. She leads the fellowship selection process, manages on-campus collaborations and advises fellows. She joined the JSK leadership team as part of the fellowship's transformation from a sabbatical model to one focused on actively addressing the biggest challenges in journalism.

Pam has extensive experience leading innovation in newsrooms. She has advised several early-stage nonprofit news organizations. Before joining JSK, she was managing editor of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch/STLToday.com, where she led the staff to national recognition for digital storytelling -- including a finalist citation for the Pulitzer Prize in Breaking News. She also was vice president of editorial at Newsy, a video news startup.

Pam previously worked at The Dallas Morning News in various leadership roles, including as editor of investigations, her first and enduring journalistic love. She was part of a Morning News team that was awarded a Pulitzer Prize for their series documenting the global epidemic of violence against women. She began her career as a beat reporter covering courts, local and state government and politics for newspapers in Missouri, New Mexico and Colorado. A graduate of the University of Missouri School of Journalism, Pam was a 2006 JSK Fellow.
